As we observe Black History Month, we reflect on our commitment to stand in support and solidarity with our community. Tom Cappas, Chief Operating Officer, had the honor of being a speaker at the Fairfield County Juneteenth Parade Grand Marshal meeting. Tom spoke about how far we have come but how far we have to go on eradicating prejudice and implicit bias. We’re so proud to participate in local events that celebrate Black history, culture and inclusion.

Black women are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer at younger ages and more advanced stages of the disease. As we recognize Black History Month, we reaffirm our dedication to eliminating the healthcare inequalities that exist in some communities. We were honored to host Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro for a press conference promoting the “Find It Early Act”. This legislation would ensure all health insurance plans cover additional breast cancer screenings at no cost to the patient and help save lives.

During Black History Month, we recognize the pioneers who propelled medical imaging forward. William Edward Allen, Jr. made history as the first African American certified X-Ray technologist. He also established one of the first approved radiology residencies for minorities.
